Fortress wurde am 22. Oktober 2009 am Main Board der Johannesburg Stock Exchange Limited als Immobilienkredit-Aktiengesellschaft notiert. Mit einer anfänglichen Marktkapitalisierung von R1,8 Mrd. war es die größte Erstnotierung im börsennotierten Immobiliensektor. Fortress wurde am 1. Juli 2013 in einen Real Estate Investment Trust REIT umgewandelt. Fortress ist ein Hybridfonds, der sowohl in direkte Immobilien als auch in andere börsennotierte Immobilienaktien und REITs investiert. Er konzentriert sich auf die Entwicklung von erstklassigen Logistikimmobilien sowie auf Investitionen in sein Einzelhandelsportfolio. Derzeit umfasst das Portfolio von Fortress Industrie-, Logistik-, Büro-, Einzelhandels- und andere Immobilien.
