Sberbank to accept Bitcoin, Ethereum and Tether as loan collateral

Sberbank plans to accept Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH) and Tether (USDT) as collateral for loans, deputy chairman Anatoly Popov said, but only as security and not as a means of payment. The move is conditional on the Bank of Russia allowing the coins for public circulation; Russia’s new law still bans crypto for domestic payments. Retail investors face a 300,000‑ruble annual cap per intermediary, while corporate borrowers have no limit. Sber records strong H1 2026 profit despite rising macro risks
