Origin Agritech builds research center for seed breeding in Guizhou

Origin Agritech has opened an approximately 8,000 m² research and development center in Kaiyang, Guizhou province, comprising a trial zone, a molecular testing platform, a tissue culture platform and four intelligent glass greenhouses. The center integrates the wholly owned subsidiary Guizhou Origin Biotechnology and a state-controlled joint venture in which Origin holds 25%; the subsidiary was capitalized with RMB 10 million and the joint venture with RMB 40 million. Research focuses include molecular breeding, virus-free sweet potato planting material, genetic transformation in eleven crops and maize seed development for mountainous regions; a doubled-haploid platform has an annual capacity of 100,000 DH lines. Origin Agritech shifts strategy to proprietary maize seed

Origin Agritech announced in Q2 FY2026 a strategic shift to direct sales of proprietary maize seed products, accompanied by significant cost reductions and an expansion of breeding programs including recognition of the gene‑editing platform Hi3. Revenue fell 31.9% to RMB 49.2 million, gross margin remained stable, operating expenses were cut by 43.9%, and net loss improved by 43.8% to RMB 14.4 million. Management expects further focus on proprietary products and biotechnological advances with revenue projections of USD 13.43 million for 2026/2027.
