Qantas flight rerouted to Christchurch after suspected engine fire on 737
Qantas flight QF122 from Queenstown to Sydney experienced a suspected left-engine issue shortly after takeoff, with passengers reporting visible flames and cabin lights flickering. Qantas sent engineers to investigate, provided hotel accommodation and rebooked affected customers on a complimentary flight, and said the aircraft landed safely under pilot control. » Plus sur theguardian.com
Qantas to retire A380 fleet in 2028 as maintenance costs bite
Qantas will begin retiring its Airbus A380 superjumbos in 2028, four years earlier than planned, citing high maintenance costs and the arrival of next-generation long‑haul jets. The move reflects aging aircraft issues and aims to free gate space for more efficient aircraft as the carrier updates its fleet. Passengers and crew will lose a much-liked spacious cabin experience, while Qantas shifts capacity toward newer, more economical types. » Plus sur theguardian.com

The airline unveiled new lie-flat business-class seats with privacy doors for its Airbus A321XLR fleet and updated seats for its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners. Qantas expects domestic and international unit revenue to increase 8%–10% in H1 fiscal 2027 despite higher fuel costs, and Citi maintained a buy rating citing strength in Jetstar and Qantas Loyalty. » Plus sur cnbc.com
