The Bremen space company OHB is to build 18 satellites for the EU’s Iris² communications initiative and will receive just under one billion euros for the work. The first OHB-built satellites are scheduled to launch in 2029; the overall 348-satellite project aims to provide eavesdrop-proof, crisis-resistant communications for government agencies, the military and businesses and to strengthen Europe’s sovereignty.
