Airlines and airports report long waits for non-EU travellers under the new Entry-Exit-System; some passengers are said to have queued for up to two hours. Italian investigations show that 82 percent of 104 reported stair falls (2023–2025) occurred on the fold-out stairs of Ryanair Boeing 737s, even though Ryanair carries only about 27 percent of passengers in Italy. The built-in airstairs are narrower (61 cm) and steeper (35°) than mobile boarding stairs; while they still sit at the industry limit for step dimensions, they are considered a risk factor in several countries. Ryanair reduced its year passenger target to 214 million (from 216 million) and expects November–March traffic to be broadly flat year‑on‑year as it trims winter capacity to cut exposure to unhedged jet fuel. The carrier has hedged 80% of fuel at $67/barrel and expects winter losses to fall by €70m–€100m, still delivering a profit for the year but below last year’s record.
