Eli Lilly receives EMA recommendation for weight-loss pill Foundayo

An EMA committee has recommended approval of Foundayo for weight control and for the treatment of type 2 diabetes in adults. The European Commission must still agree to the recommendation before Eli Lilly can market the drug in the EU. Eli Lilly ramps R&D and acquisitions to replace GLP-1 revenue before 2030s patent cliff

Eli Lilly, whose GLP-1 weight-loss and diabetes drugs generated 62% of trailing 12‑month revenue and helped push its market cap above $1 trillion, is spending heavily to diversify its pipeline before patents lapse in the 2030s. The company increased R&D to $13.3 billion in 2025 (and $7.3 billion in H1 2026) and has struck 31 deals this year, spending roughly $18 billion on acquisitions and licenses including Kelonia, Centessa and AtaiBeckley. Lilly is investing across oncology, neurology, sleep and psychedelics, and backing AI drug discovery with a $1 billion Nvidia partnership to seed next-generation blockbusters.
