IBM Ventures has taken a stake in BQP; the funding round raises total financing to $8 million. Other investors include Venn10 Capital and Monta Vista Capital; the size of IBM’s commitment was not disclosed. BQP provides software to accelerate physical simulations (QuantumNOW) for CPUs and GPUs, and a quantum-native version is under development. Contract revenues have increased eightfold and the customer count tripled since the 2025 seed round; existing customers are mainly in aerospace and defense. IBM has completed its acquisition of HRL Laboratories. HRL brings expertise in silicon spin qubits, quantum sensing, cryogenics, control electronics, packaging and quantum materials, which are to be combined with IBM's superconducting quantum computing technology. The transaction expands IBM's manufacturing capacity and its collaboration with the quantum wafer foundry Anderon; Boeing and General Motors will continue cooperating on quantum projects with IBM and HRL. At the Hot Chips conference, IBM announced a dual‑architecture mainframe processor that can run both IBM and Arm operating systems and applications in parallel on IBM Z and LinuxONE. Manufactured in 2‑nanometer technology, the chip includes 11 high‑performance cores exceeding 5.7 GHz, AI inference accelerators for real‑time fraud detection, an on‑chip data processing unit for I/O acceleration, and a large cache architecture. Each core is designed to execute Arm and IBM Z (or Arm and LinuxONE) instruction sets natively and simultaneously.
