  • MEG Energy reports robust cash flow, raises dividend and plans capacity expansion

MEG Energy reported an adjusted funds flow of USD 125 million for Q2 2025 and a free cash flow of USD 148 million in the first half. The company expects free cash flow of more than USD 500 million for 2025, keeps CAPEX at around USD 450 million and extends turnaround cycles to four years. MEG raises the quarterly dividend by 10% to USD 0.11 per share and plans a production capacity increase of 25,000 barrels per day by mid-2027 with the goal of lifting production to 135,000 barrels per day. » More on de.investing.com

  • S&P raises rating of MEG Energy to BBB after Cenovus takeover, outlook negative

S&P Global Ratings has raised MEG Energy’s rating from BB- to BBB because MEG is now considered a core subsidiary of Cenovus and the acquisition materially increases Cenovus’s proven net reserves and expected production. The outlook remains negative due to leverage concerns stemming from the acquisition; S&P expects Cenovus to curb share buybacks and prioritize debt reduction. A potential downgrade to BBB- is cited if the FFO-to-debt ratio falls to about 45% under mid‑term price assumptions; the outlook could be stabilized if net debt is substantially reduced over the next two years. » More on de.investing.com

  • Cenovus increases cash offer for MEG Energy to $30 per share

Cenovus Energy has raised the cash component of its takeover offer for MEG Energy to $30.00 per share and is alternatively offering shareholders 1.255 Cenovus common shares per MEG share, subject to pro rata allocation (maximum cash payout $3.8 billion; maximum 159.6 million Cenovus shares). In parallel, Cenovus agreed a voting agreement with Strathcona and announced the sale of certain assets to Strathcona for up to $150 million. The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2025; MEG’s extraordinary shareholders’ meeting is scheduled for October 30 and the proxy deadline is October 29. » More on de.investing.com
