  • SES deploys satellite broadband to support rescue operations after Nepal floods

SES is providing satellite capacity and working with PCCW and local partners to deliver high‑speed Wi‑Fi and connectivity for government rescue teams and Nepal’s Disaster Management Office following catastrophic glacier‑triggered floods. The Luxembourg‑based operator, now merged with Intelsat, is using its combined satellite fleet to enable coordination, hazard mapping and emergency services where terrestrial networks are damaged or inaccessible. SES has previously activated assets in Colombia and Ukraine for disaster response and says satellite broadband can extend resilient communications across Nepal’s mountainous, underserved regions. » More on forbes.com

  • SES deploys geostationary satellites to beam broadband to quake-hit Colombia

SES activated its SES-17 spacecraft and other geostationary assets to provide high-speed satellite broadband to remote hospitals, schools and first responders in areas devastated by the magnitude 7.4 earthquake. The operator, now combined with Intelsat, is working with local partner Sencinet and Colombia’s Civil Defense to install terminals and Wi‑Fi hotspots free of charge to support rescue, medical coordination and school recovery. SES said the emergency connectivity also aims to bridge the digital divide long-term by reconnecting isolated communities to telemedicine, education and online services. » More on forbes.com
