SoftBank sounds out jumbo bond to finance AI investments
SoftBank will meet with investors in New York from Sept. 14â17 to gauge interest in a possible issuance of US dollar junk bonds (Rule 144A). Chief financial officer Yoshimitsu Goto and other executives will hold talks organized by Citigroup, Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan and Morgan Stanley; the target size is reportedly $10â20 billion with a possible euro tranche. The aim is to refinance short-term bridge loans and heavy AI investments through longer-term debt; SoftBank previously obtained a $40 billion bridge loan to finance OpenAI and recently placed a large retail bond in Japan. » More on de.investing.com
SoftBank rises after analyst upgrade and successful HAPS demo
SoftBank shares climbed 0.7% to „239.3, supported by an analyst upgrade in late August that raised the price target to „280. The consensus price target is around „258 and the majority of analysts recommend buying the stock. SoftBank also reported a successful demonstration of a High-Altitude Platform Station (HAPS) with Sceye, a step toward commercializing airborne connectivity. SoftBank shares fell 5.9% to „4,953 after SB Energyâs IPO prospectus showed a net loss of $3.2 billion for H1 2026 on just $139 million of revenue. The result heightens concerns about losses in the AI investment portfolio and dependence on OpenAI, which SB Energy cites as a risk in the prospectus.
