  • Hawaiian Electric misses profit forecast for Q2 2026

Hawaiian Electric reported adjusted earnings of $0.13 per share for Q2 2026, below analysts’ estimate of $0.19. Revenue was $939.7 million, with results pressured by higher operating and maintenance costs and increased interest expenses; an accounting one‑time effect from the Maui wildfire settlement boosted reported net income to $123.2 million. Management expects higher O&M costs in 2026, is preparing a rate reset for 2027 and plans a securitization of about $350 million for wildfire prevention. The stock hardly moved and remained near the low end of its 52‑week range. » More on de.investing.com

  • S&P upgrades Hawaiian Electric to BB- after reduction in wildfire risk

S&P Global Ratings raised Hawaiian Electric’s rating from B+ to BB- and assigned a stable outlook as wildfire risk declines. The decision follows the Hawaii Public Utilities Commission’s approval to provide about $350 million in cost recovery for prevention investments over three years. Hawaiian Electric has implemented measures such as preventive power shutoffs, AI-supported cameras, weather stations and expanded vegetation management, with more than 75% of spending going to grid hardening. S&P expects an FFO-to-debt ratio of about 10.5% in 2026 and above 12% from 2027, affirmed the BB rating on HECO bonds and left the commercial paper rating at B; the recovery rating was adjusted from 1 to 2. » More on de.investing.com

  • Hawaiian Electric Industries completes Maui settlement, reports mixed Q1 and advances rate rebasing

Hawaiian Electric Industries finalized the Maui wildfire settlement and made the first of four $479 million annual payments, calling 2026 a "year of transition." Q1 net income rose to $30.5 million but core earnings fell due to severe weather-related costs, higher insurance expenses and increased interest expense. The company proposed a 2027 rate rebasing to raise consolidated base rates about 5.3% over two years and secured regulatory cost recovery of $908 million for the Waiau repowering project while expecting to seek additional recovery later. HEI reports sufficient near-term liquidity and plans opportunistic debt or convertible financing for future settlement payments; Moody’s upgraded both utility and holding company ratings following the settlement. » More on finance.yahoo.com
