Tata Motors will license Chery's Freelander platform to build premium Avinya electric vehicles, using kits shipped from China and assembled at its new Tamil Nadu factory. The deal replaces Tata's earlier plan to use Jaguar Land Rover's EMA after JLR shelved India plans, and aims to accelerate launches delayed by that setback. Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles reported that a cyber attack on Jaguar Land Rover forced production suspensions through September and production only returned to normal by mid‑November, causing retail sales to fall 25.1% year‑on‑year to 79,600 units in Oct–Dec and wholesale production to drop 43% to 59,200 units. The disruption contributed to a quarterly loss of about £500m and, together with incremental US tariffs, led to steep regional declines including a 37.7% fall in North America; sales also fell in the UK, Europe and China.
