The FDA has approved the initial dose of Eisai’s Alzheimer treatment Leqembi for subcutaneous at-home use, allowing patients or caregivers to administer the therapy themselves. Until now treatment began with intravenous infusions in clinics, with maintenance therapy following after 18 months. The approval is likely to increase accessibility and acceptance and to set Leqembi apart from intravenously administered competing drugs. Eisai has presented a three-year plan through March 2029 aiming for ¥1 trillion in revenue and ¥90 billion in operating profit. The revenue target is roughly in line with consensus (¥972 billion), while the operating profit goal is below analysts’ estimates (¥101.8 billion). Eisai reported record revenue of JPY 825.4 billion (+4.6%) for Q4 of fiscal 2025, while operating profit fell 18.8% to JPY 44.1 billion and net profit fell 17% to JPY 38.6 billion. Core operating profit more than doubled to JPY 50.1 billion, driven by the pharmaceutical business with products such as LEQEMBI, DAYVIGO and LENVIMA. The company attributed the profit declines to strategic decisions against out-licensing and unexpected restructuring costs in Europe.
