General Motors recorded a nearly $2.3 billion EV-related charge in the latest quarter, bringing total costs tied to its EV strategy reset to $10.9 billion since mid-2025. The charges reflect cuts to battery capacity and factory retooling to boost gas-powered vehicle production as US EV demand softened after the federal tax credit expired. General Motors has laid off more than 1,000 workers at its Factory ZERO plant in Detroit and added 50 collaborative robots that assist with attaching body panels.
