The Linz-based mobile phone maker Emporia is being sold in full to the Norwegian company Xplora Technologies. The transaction is scheduled to close in the second quarter of 2026; the purchase price was not disclosed. Emporia CEO Eveline Pupeter describes the sale as a planned step for an orderly transition and to secure the brand long term. Researchers at TU Darmstadt report that a student, in his master’s thesis, was able to demonstrate vulnerabilities in a popular Xplora smartwatch for children. According to the researchers, a key could be extracted from one watch, which in theory would allow access to all watches of the same model and could enable interception and manipulation of messages. Xplora partially disputes the findings, calling it a not easily accessible error‑fixing/debugging interface, and says it has implemented security improvements.
