BBVA has received approval from the European Central Bank for a share buyback program of up to €3.96 billion, which may be executed in multiple tranches until 8 December 2026. The first tranche begins on 22 December 2025 with a maximum cash amount of €1.5 billion and a cap of 557,316,433 shares; completion is planned between 6 March and 7 April 2026 unless the limits are reached earlier. J.P. BBVA again convinced too few Sabadell shareholders: only slightly more than a quarter accepted the offer, while at least 30 percent would have been required. The planned takeover has therefore failed, and Sabadell shares fell by about six percent.
