Leica launches SL3-P with 44MP sensor, 8K video and hybrid autofocus for $6,690
Leica introduced the SL3-P, a mid-tier full-frame camera that combines a 44-megapixel BSI sensor with open-gate 8.1K video and a new hybrid autofocus system featuring 819 phase-detection points. The camera offers up to 40 fps stills with 14 stops dynamic range, Multishot 176MP capture, and 4K/1080p 120fps slo-mo, housed in a magnesium-aluminum body with IP54 rating. Leica partners with Gpixel for its own image sensors
Leica has entered a technical partnership with Chinese semiconductor manufacturer Gpixel to develop and bring to mass production custom image sensors for future camera models, likely the M series. This marks a partial return from Sony sensors as Leica again emphasizes its own sensor technology. Leica appoints Andreas Voll as new CEO
Andreas Voll will become CEO of camera maker Leica effective April 1, succeeding Matthias Harsch, whose contract expires at the end of March. Supervisory board chairman and majority owner Andreas Kaufmann praised Voll’s international management experience and expertise in premium technology and brand leadership.
