Swiss stock market falls after previous-day rally; Swiss Re drags SMI lower
The Swiss benchmark index SMI lost 1.1% to 13,135 points after profit-taking spread across Europe in the afternoon. Swiss Re fell 3.2% after RBC criticized the quality of first-quarter results as well as sales and pricing trends. Roche confirmed the takeover of PathAI for up to 1.05 billion USD and its shares dropped 1.1%, while AMS-Osram rose by more than 29% following an AI contract. Swiss Re posts first-quarter profit of $1.5bn and ROE of 23.6%
Swiss Re reports a group profit of $1.5bn for Q1 2026 (+19%) and a return on equity of 23.6%, driven by contributions from all business units, low natural catastrophe losses and a strong investment result. P&C Re posted a profit of $754m with a loss and expense ratio of 79.5%, Corporate Solutions $262m and L&H Re $491m. The investment return was 4.6% and the estimated SST ratio stood at 252%.
