Volvo announces a model offensive with 13 new vehicles ranging from pure electric cars to hybrids, seven models for western markets and six specifically for China. The company intends to increase the share of identical parts from 10% to 30% by 2030 and to expand cooperation with parent company Geely to cut material costs by around 5%. Development expenditures and production costs in western markets are to fall, and savings in administration and sales are planned, aiming to raise the operating margin before interest and taxes to above 8%. Volvo is reintroducing the XC40 plug-in hybrid with refreshed exterior and interior, an enlarged 11.2-inch infotainment screen running Volvo’s new UI and Google’s Gemini voice assistant, and a new sensor-and-software safety platform. The safety upgrade adds front, rear and corner radars, 12 ultrasonic sensors, new cameras and features like real-time collision avoidance, automated emergency steering and door-opening alerts. Volvo is cooperating with Daimler Truck, Toyota, Bosch, Air Liquide, TotalEnergies, TEAL Mobility, MB Energy and other partners to enable widespread use of hydrogen-powered trucks by 2030. Plans include building hydrogen refuelling stations along strategic corridors, an integrated supply chain and a competitive hydrogen price so customers can achieve competitive total cost of ownership.
