Honda plans cost cuts of over $9 billion under pressure from Chinese EV makers

Honda moves toward software alliance with Nissan to develop vehicle operating system

Honda is reportedly close to agreeing with Nissan to jointly develop a vehicle operating system and onboard computer for models from around 2029, though no deal is finalized. The collaboration would let Honda spread software development costs across more vehicles as it balances record quarterly profits with JPY520 billion of forecast EV-related losses and a sharp sales decline in China. According to Nikkei, Honda and Nissan are expected to agree on jointly developing an operating system and onboard computer for new vehicles starting in 2029.
