Leica records first revenue decline in years
Leica reported a revenue decline of 3.8 percent to €573 million in the most recent fiscal year but remained profitable overall. The company cited weaker demand for expensive cameras, customers opting for cheaper models, geopolitical uncertainty, currency effects and tightened customs rules as reasons. CEO Andreas Voll plans to counter this with new products, targeting new groups (more women, younger people, creative communities) and expanding the global sales network. Leica launches SL3-P with 44MP sensor, 8K video and hybrid autofocus for $6,690
Leica introduced the SL3-P, a mid-tier full-frame camera that combines a 44-megapixel BSI sensor with open-gate 8.1K video and a new hybrid autofocus system featuring 819 phase-detection points. The camera offers up to 40 fps stills with 14 stops dynamic range, Multishot 176MP capture, and 4K/1080p 120fps slo-mo, housed in a magnesium-aluminum body with IP54 rating. Leica partners with Gpixel to develop its own image sensors
Leica has entered a technical partnership with Chinese semiconductor manufacturer Gpixel to develop custom image sensors, including validation, image tuning and mass‑production readiness, which could already be used in upcoming M models. The move is intended to make Leica less dependent on Sony and renews an in‑house development initiative that began in 2022.
