Akebia starts phase-2 study of ebribafusp for rare kidney diseases

Akebia has announced the start of an open-label phase-2 basket study testing ebribafusp in complement-mediated kidney diseases (IgA nephropathy, lupus nephritis, C3 glomerulopathy). Up to 30 patients will receive a weekly subcutaneous dose for 26 weeks, followed by a long-term extension for responders. The primary endpoint is the incidence of adverse events; secondary endpoints include proteinuria, estimated GFR and pharmacokinetics. Akebia strengthens Vafseo patent protection through 2036

Akebia secured a new Orange Book patent listing and eligibility for a five-year composition-of-matter extension, bringing Vafseo's Orange Book-listed patents to 14 with protection through 2036. In Q1 2026 Vafseo net product revenue was $15.8 million, patient count rose about 60% quarter‑over‑quarter and prescribers reached ~1,025 (up 28% from Q4 2025).
