Alibaba launches cost-efficient AI model Qwen3.8-Flash with open weights download

Alibaba has introduced Qwen3.8-Flash, a 125-billion-parameter AI model priced for broad adoption whose weights are available for download. According to the company, Qwen3.8-Flash delivers competitive performance versus models like Opus 4.6 and V4-Flash and outperforms Qwen3.7-Plus on programming and office tasks, despite having been trained at one-ninth the training cost. Production prices are $0.16 per million input tokens and $0.47 per million output tokens; the model natively supports 262,144 context tokens and can be extended to 1 million tokens via YaRN. Michael Burry sold his entire Alibaba position and moved into JD.com before Alibaba priced a HK$80 billion ($10.2bn) follow-on offering, saying he "cannot bless share issuances" and would only consider buying back if the stock halved.
