The funds are primarily intended to pay for repairs to the Pedra‑Branca‑do‑Amapari bridge, which is currently operating under restrictions and is hindering ore transport to first shipment. If the general meeting rejects the proposal and no alternative financing is available, works would be delayed and the final feasibility study is likely to be pushed back until mid‑2027. The International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) has formally registered the arbitration claim by Cadence Minerals and REM Mexico against Mexico over the annulment of nine concessions for the Sonora lithium project (ICSID ARB/26/36). Cadence, which has invested in the project since 2013 and holds 30% of the affected companies, alleges breaches of the British–Mexican investment protection treaty, including unlawful expropriation and denial of fair treatment.
