Manufacturers such as Daimler Truck, MAN and Scania are delivering functional electric trucks, but cannot bring about a market breakthrough on their own because public and depot charging infrastructure and sufficient grid connection capacity are lacking. Without a dense, reliable charging network and faster grid expansion and permitting processes, electric trucks will remain uneconomical for many fleet operators. Daimler Truck plans to expand its offering for the defence sector and will in future supply everything from light multipurpose vehicles to heavy tactical logistics platforms. Over the next few years a mid-to-high three-digit million amount will be invested in development, production, sales and service.
