S&P downgrades Dish DBS to 'D' after Chapter 11 filing

S&P Global Ratings cut Dish DBS's rating from CCC+ to 'D' after the subsidiary filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on June 30, 2026. The filing came one day before the maturity of $2 billion in secured notes, after the sale of spectrum rights to AT&T was delayed and caused a liquidity shortfall. Dish has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy to allow an orderly wind-down of its wireless operations after delayed sales of $23 billion in 5G spectrum left it without sufficient liquidity to repay $2 billion in debt due July 1. The company, owned by EchoStar, says Dish TV, Sling TV and other consumer brands will continue operating and that it plans to emerge from Chapter 11 by the end of Q3 2026.
