Hornbach Austria chief Peter Eberdorfer emphasizes that the chain is opting for permanently low prices instead of discount promotions, yielding positive sales effects. Competition increasingly comes from supermarkets and online retailers, but for larger construction projects Hornbach sees the strength of its bricks-and-mortar stores in personal advice. A shortage of skilled workers forces the company to provide internal training; at the same time Hornbach plans to open a 17th location and to modernize eight stores with a mid single-digit million euro investment. In the first half of 2026/27 Hornbach’s sales rose six percent to €3.8 billion, and adjusted operating profit increased by just under five percent to €285.6 million. The drivers were strong sales of air conditioners as well as shading and irrigation products. Hornbach plans further expansion and is taking over six Hellweg sites; it also opened stores in Slovakia and Austria and plans another store in the Netherlands.
