Jersey Oil and Gas assesses impact after windfall profits tax replaced by new OGPM
The UK government is replacing the Energy Profits Levy with the Oil and Gas Price Mechanism (OGPM), which will apply from 1 April 2030 or earlier when commodity prices are high. The OGPM levies a 35% tax only on revenues above threshold prices (for 2026/27: $90/barrel oil, 90 pence/therm gas), which are adjusted annually to the CPI and are expected to reach about $98/barrel and 98 pence/therm by 2030. The overall tax rate is intended to return to 40% in the long term.
