Kawasaki Heavy Industries' new anti-ship missile performs barrel-roll to evade ship defenses
Japan’s New SSM, developed with Kawasaki Heavy Industries as prime contractor, was shown in official footage executing barrel-roll maneuvers intended to complicate interception by shipboard close-in weapon systems. The subsonic, turbofan-powered missile features pop-out wings, stealth shaping, GPS/INS navigation and a dual-mode IIR/RF seeker for terminal guidance. The design is modular, allowing land-attack, decoy or loitering variants, and is expected to exceed the range of the Type 12 family with mass production targeted around 2027. The missile aims to strengthen Japan’s long-range strike and island-defense capabilities amid regional security concerns. » Altro su yahoo.com
