NextDecade reports that construction at Rio Grande LNG in South Texas for production trains 1–5 is ahead of schedule and within budget as of June 2026; trains 1–2 are 74.0% complete, train 3 is 50.4% complete, train 4 is 15.5% complete and train 5 is 9.4% complete. The company commissioned the 138‑kV main substation in May, is assigning personnel to general contractor Bechtel Energy and expects first gas feed in the second half of 2026 and first LNG production from train 1 in H1 2027. NextDecade filed for an expansion with the FERC in May (train 6 and an additional ship berth); the final Environmental Impact Statement is scheduled for 25 June 2027. The NextDecade subsidiary Rio Grande LNG Intermediate HoldCo Borrower agreed a $1.0 billion term loan facility maturing June 17, 2033, with an interest rate of 7.05% p.a. The proceeds will be used primarily as an equity contribution to Rio Grande LNG and to cover loan costs and administrative expenses. The loan provides for payment-in-kind (PIK) interest through the end of September 2026, includes extensive covenants, security interests over nearly all assets and a minimum debt service coverage requirement of 1.05. NextDecade names John Zuklic chief financial officer effective July 6, 2026; he joins from Citgo, where he served as CFO since 2020. Zuklic brings more than 30 years of experience in the energy sector and expertise in capital structuring, treasury and corporate finance. The appointment comes as NextDecade operates with high indebtedness of about USD 9.47 billion and a current ratio of 0.4.
