Nikola after insolvency with $296 million in debt and only one remaining employee

Former electric-truck hopeful Nikola has laid off almost its entire staff after filing for insolvency; of 874 employees only the liquidating trustee Thomas Pitta remained. Since February 2025 losses have accumulated to more than $556 million; in November 2025 there were no revenues and instead a monthly loss of about $1.6 million was reported. The balance sheet shows negative equity of about $172 million on total liabilities of roughly $296 million; Nikola recently sold assets such as environmental credits. For the quarter ended 31 Dec 2024, Nikola reported a loss per share of 7.44 USD (prior year: -4.20 USD) and revenue of 4.9 million USD, a decline of 57.76% from 11.5 million USD in the year-ago quarter. For the full year, a loss per share of 17.56 USD is reported (prior year: -36.30 USD).
