US Steel and Nippon Steel withdraw lawsuit against Cleveland-Cliffs
US Steel, Nippon Steel and Nippon Steel North America have voluntarily and permanently dropped their lawsuit against Cleveland-Cliffs as well as against its CEO Lourenco Goncalves and a union representative. The settlement provides for a full release of all defendants without any financial consideration; further details are confidential. Nippon Steel commits $11 billion to boost U.S. Steel profit and expand U.S. capacity
Nippon Steel will invest $11 billion and transfer technologies to raise U.S. Steel's annual profit contribution to 250 billion yen by fiscal 2028 while expanding domestic crude steel capacity and adding high-grade product lines. The investment program through 2028 includes a new hot-rolling mill, blast furnace refurbishment, electromagnetic steel sheet lines and potential greenfield electric arc furnace capacity, with detailed plans due later this year.
