Outokumpu: Rising costs erode benefits of EU trade measures

Outokumpu says higher scrap, freight and fuel costs largely offset the increased demand for European steel resulting from EU trade measures. The European business posted an adjusted operating profit of €17m in the second quarter, a recovery from the first-quarter loss but only marginally better than €16m a year earlier. Outokumpu posts adjusted EBITDA of €65m in first quarter despite weak Europe business

Outokumpu reported adjusted EBITDA of €65 million for Q1 2026, below analysts' expectations of €72 million but significantly above Q4 2025. Stainless steel deliveries rose 27% quarter-on-quarter; in Europe deliveries increased but lower margins and negative inventory valuation were a drag. The Americas beat consensus with €52 million thanks to higher sales prices; ferrochrome and shipment volumes also increased. Free cash flow was €34 million.
