Poolbeg Pharma raises £3.5m through placing new shares

Poolbeg Pharma placed 58,333,328 new ordinary shares at 6 pence each, raising gross proceeds of £3.5 million; the issue price was about 16.08% below the mid closing price. Executive Chair Cathal Friel subscribed for £250,000 of shares. Net proceeds are expected to finance the TOPICAL study of POLB 001 and the proof-of-concept study of the oral GLP‑1 until completion and to extend the cash runway into the second quarter of 2028. Poolbeg Pharma to trial oral drug POLB 001 to prevent cytokine storm in cancer patients

Poolbeg Pharma will test oral POLB 001 on 30 patients across six NHS hospitals to prevent cytokine release syndrome (CRS) in people receiving Johnson & Johnson’s teclistamab for blood cancer. The company says the drug could allow treatment in community hospitals rather than specialist centres, reducing costs and risks, and expects interim trial data by the end of summer. Kilcoyne brings over 20 years of clinical experience in oncology and immunology drug development and was most recently chief medical officer at Cellectis.
