SK Telecom leads consortium for government 'AI for All' project

South Korea's Ministry of Science and ICT has commissioned a consortium led by SK Telecom, together with Kakao and KT, to run the government 'AI for All' program. The initiative offers the public free access to a universal AI chatbot and a public AI agent for administrative procedures, and is based on domestic AI models. SK Telecom spins off data center unit and secures $2.3 billion investment

SK Telecom establishes SK Horizon as the spun-off data center unit and secures a binding investment of 3.08 trillion KRW (USD 2.3 billion) from KKR and a consortium of IMM Investment and Stonebridge. After the investments close, SK Telecom will hold 51%, KKR 29% and the IMM consortium 20%. AI strategy drives SK Telecom following strong Q2 profit growth

SK Telecom reported Q2 consolidated revenue of 4,359.1 billion KRW (+0.5%) and an operating profit of 566 billion KRW (+67.3%). The AI data-center business grew by 92.5% and is seen as the main driver; the company plans a target capacity of 15 GW via SK Hyper (first phase 5 GW) and intends to partially finance the expansion externally.
