Verbio has started up a new production plant at the Bitterfeld-Wolfen chemical park to manufacture bio-based chemicals from rapeseed oil. The project, into which nearly €100 million was invested, is according to the company the world’s first industrial ethenolysis plant based on rapeseed methyl ester, with a capacity of up to 60,000 tonnes per year. The products are intended to replace fossil feedstocks in areas such as detergents and cleaning products, lubricants and plastics; utilization will be increased step by step in line with customer approvals.
