Eutelsat announced a multi-year extension of its cooperation with StarTV (Grupo W Com), under which StarTV will use additional capacity on the EUTELSAT 117 West B satellite to offer direct-to-home TV, educational content and near-video-on-demand via IP across Mexico. The agreement secures the 117° West orbital position for video transmissions in Mexico and Latin America and is intended to improve access to content in remote areas and reduce customer churn. Eutelsat has ordered 229 additional OneWeb satellites from Airbus; the investment is estimated at around one billion euros and complements the 440 satellites previously ordered. Delivery of the earlier-ordered satellites is expected to begin next quarter, while the new satellites are intended to renew and expand OneWeb’s constellation through 2034. Berenberg starts coverage of Eutelsat with a 'hold' rating and a €2 price target, but sees high investment commitments for IRIS2 and the renewal of the OneWeb constellation as a significant risk.
