Hapag-Lloyd intends to continue pursuing the takeover of Israeli shipping company ZIM for around €3.6 billion, even though the Israeli government has so far issued a veto. CEO Rolf Habben Jansen stresses that the proposed plan is an improvement over the status quo and that talks with Israeli authorities have intensified in recent weeks. Israel’s main concern is minority stakes held by Saudi and Qatari sovereign wealth funds in Hapag-Lloyd; management notes that these shareholders do not have direct influence over day-to-day operations.
