KEFI Gold and Copper marked the formal start of construction at the Tulu Kapi gold project in Ethiopia with an official groundbreaking. The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali, Oromia President Shimelis Abdisa and other government and community representatives. The project includes a resettlement and restoration program for affected farmers as well as financial compensation, new agricultural land, training and education and health facilities. KEFI agreed a US$20m equity-ranking gold royalty with Chancery Royalty, completing the core US$340m financing package for the Tulu Kapi gold project in Ethiopia and prompting mobilisation of field teams and a ground-breaking ceremony this month. A further US$30m of equity-risk capital is expected to close this month, including US$10m of development costs to be paid in KEFI shares and US$20m of additional equity-ranking royalties on the same terms.
