Roots agrees to takeover by Marquee Brands for C$4.10 a share

Roots has agreed to a takeover by Marquee Brands at C$4.10 per share, representing a 36% premium to the closing price on 2 March 2026. About 69% of voting interests, including Searchlight Kapital Partners, Kernwood and certain directors and officers, have already signalled their support. Marquee Brands plans to work with JM&A Design and Development, which will oversee operations, design, manufacturing, retail and e‑commerce in North America; the headquarters will remain in Toronto. Roots opens airport shop in Vancouver in partnership with Hudson

Roots has opened a store behind security at gate E88 in the US departures terminal of Vancouver International Airport, operated in partnership with travel retailer Hudson (Avolta). The offering includes apparel, accessories and Vancouver-themed items exclusive to the location; Roots is exploring further expansion opportunities in travel retail in Canada. Roots increases revenue in Q1 2026, reports higher net loss

Roots recorded a 6.5% revenue increase in Q1 2026 to CAD 42.6m and comparable-store sales growth of 3.2%. Net loss widened to CAD 10.1m (CAD 0.26 per share) from CAD 7.9m a year earlier, alongside a decline in gross margin to 59.9%. Direct-to-consumer sales rose 3.3% and partner revenue climbed 26.6%, while higher SG&A costs and operating charges weighed on profitability.
