Ro Khanna presses Alibaba and other Chinese AI firms on safeguards as he pushes for US‑China AI treaty
Rep. Ro Khanna asked Alibaba, DeepSeek and Moonshot AI for documentation on efforts toward superintelligence, safeguards, kill switches and willingness to accept third‑party inspections, and requested the ODNI assess US and Chinese readiness to handle runaway AI. Khanna seeks a treaty banning recursive self‑improvement and monitoring frontier labs but acknowledges such an agreement is unlikely soon, proposing a bilateral expert working group as an interim step. He criticized US and Chinese leaders for lacking urgency and warned industry self‑regulation is insufficient. » Mais em theverge.com
Alibaba monitored by Polaris amid AI opportunity and China market challenges
Polaris Global Equity Strategy highlighted Alibaba in its Q2 2026 investor letter, citing the company's strengths in cloud, e‑commerce and AI while flagging significant headwinds. Identified risks include a U.S. military blacklist designation, concerns that a $1.5 billion bid for grocery-delivery firm Pupu would deepen low-margin exposure, and distillation allegations from Anthropic that could prompt U.S. technology sanctions. Alibaba shares closed at $116.31 on Sept 22, 2026, trading down about 34% over the past 52 weeks with a market capitalization near $291 billion, and hedge fund ownership slipped from 102 to 97 portfolios; Polaris says other AI stocks may offer greater upside and less downside risk. » Mais em finance.yahoo.com
Alibaba raises capex forecasts after announcement of AI chip and data center expansion
After unveiling its own AI chip and plans to increase data center capacity to 20 gigawatts by 2032, Citigroup has sharply raised Alibaba’s capital expenditure forecasts for 2027–2029. Citi now expects about $38.5 billion for 2027, $42.2 billion for 2028 and $42.0 billion for 2029, partly in cooperation with industry partners as announced by CEO Eddie Wu. Investors reacted skeptically to the higher capex burden, which will depress near-term profitability and has pushed the stock roughly 7% below its month-ago high, while the project is expected to strengthen Alibaba’s long-term AI transformation. » Mais em deraktionaer.de
