Alstom has signed contracts worth over €1.2 billion with TransPennine Express to supply and maintain a new fleet of battery-electric trains for northern England. Around €930 million covers 29 five-car trains, about €230 million covers long-term maintenance agreements; the trains will be built in Litchurch Lane, Derby. Deutsche Bahn has temporarily removed the direct ICE service between Berlin and Paris from the timetable. The reason are technical problems with the manufacturer's European train control system from Alstom, which the railway says it wants fixed immediately. Affected passengers have been informed and must now change trains in Frankfurt or Mannheim; there is no clear date for resumption.
