American Electric Power has been granted a loan facility of up to $3.26 billion by the U.S. Department of Energy to expand transmission infrastructure in Texas. The federal funds are to finance nearly 100 projects, including reconductoring of aging lines and about 2,800 miles of new transmission lines. The DOE expects a doubling of transmission capacity, fewer power outages and the ability to connect new power plants.
