  • Hapoalim postpones end-September ultimatum; payments to Palestinian accounts secured until year-end

Hapoalim and Discount had announced they would stop their correspondent services for Palestinian banks, but reversed the decision at short notice after international pressure and postponed the deadline until the end of the year. The Israeli government plans to make the state Correspondence Services Ltd. operational, but a legal basis and political agreement before year-end are still lacking. Without a permanent solution, massive economic and security consequences threaten the West Bank and the Palestinian Authority. » More on handelsblatt.com
