  • Olympus reports strong first quarter; shares rise 1.82%

Olympus posted better margins, lower costs and solid demand in North America in the first quarter of fiscal 2027, so results exceeded analysts' expectations. No concrete figures for revenue or EPS were released, but management left the full‑year forecast unchanged. The restructuring with around 2,000 job cuts is expected to deliver savings of 200 billion JPY in 2027 and 260 billion JPY from 2028; China remained a drag with a currency‑adjusted decline of 17.3%. The stock rose to $1,906 (+1.82%), but remains below its 52‑week high. » More on de.investing.com

  • Olympus seeks margin expansion for fiscal 2027 after FDA-related charges

Olympus reported sales of ¥1,010.7 billion for fiscal 2026 but took roughly ¥30 billion in charges from FDA import warnings and supply stoppages; adjusted operating margin fell to 14.2%. Q4 showed signs of recovery with improvements in sales and margins. For 2027 management forecasts sales of ¥1,055–1,076 billion and is targeting an adjusted operating margin of 15.2–16.7% (up 100–250 basis points). Olympus will maintain the dividend (¥30), has approved share buybacks of up to ¥60 billion and has launched a strategic review of its surgical businesses, citing a return to full supply capability and new product launches as drivers. » More on de.investing.com

  • Olympus cuts sales forecast by 2%; shares fall 5.22%

Olympus revised its currency-adjusted sales forecast for the third quarter down by 2%; the share price fell 5.22% to ¥1,954.5 after the announcement. Reasons cited include supply stoppages and inventory actions that weighed on the gross margin. Management plans structural cost reductions of ¥31 billion and aims for a margin expansion of more than 100 basis points from fiscal 2027 and an operating margin above 20%. Olympus expects a recovery in US growth in the fourth quarter and is banking on product innovation in the GI segment, but sees risks from supply-chain issues and ongoing FDA inspections. » More on de.investing.com
