Charter Communications closes $34.5 billion merger with Cox and forms new Cox Communications
Charter Communications completed its $34.5 billion acquisition of Cox, creating a combined cable operator serving about 37 million customers across 45 states. The deal was paid with stock and $4 billion in cash and names the merged company Cox Communications with Charter CEO Chris Winfrey remaining CEO. Cox customers will gain access to Spectrum plans by mid-September and eligible former Cox Internet subscribers receive a free mobile line for one year.
