Under a provisional agreement with the union Unifor, General Motors will invest CAD 1.1 billion in Canada’s auto sector. CAD 144 million of that is earmarked for production of the next-generation heavy pickup GMC Sierra at the Oshawa plant, and GM also pledged not to sell or close the Ingersoll assembly plant for the time being. The agreement still needs to be approved by around 4,600 union members. NHTSA opened an engineering analysis covering 997,743 GM pickups and SUVs with the L87 V‑8 engine from model years 2021–2026, including Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Yukon. The agency logged roughly 500 complaints of post‑recall engine failures and 191 failures in vehicles built after the prior recall, while GM has reported about 6,953 post‑repair complaints and disclosed roughly $500 million in incremental costs tied to the L87 issue.
