General Motors spends $4.5 billion on parts financing to guard against future supply shocks

General Motors set up a purchasing facility worth up to $4.5 billion with Procura Auto Parts, funded by a bank syndicate led by JPMorgan Chase and Santander, to prepay suppliers and secure parts without carrying inventory costs on its balance sheet. The program aims to protect production from disruptions such as chip shortages, cyberattacks or natural disasters, though GM has not disclosed which parts are covered and pays interest, usage premiums and fees on unused stock. US agency investigates nearly one million General Motors vehicles over engine damage

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened a probe into 997,743 pickup trucks and SUVs from General Motors (model years 2021–2026) equipped with L87 engines. The agency received 499 complaints of engine damage, including reports involving vehicles that have already been recalled. General Motors starts battery cell production in Ohio after seven-month pause

The Ultium Cells joint venture of General Motors and LG Energy Solution will resume battery cell manufacturing at its plant in northeastern Ohio next week. After a shutdown that began in January, most of the previously laid-off workers are returning; the plant is expected to employ about 1,400 people.
