Rocket Companies appointed Alessio Sanfilippo effective immediately as chief executive officer of Redfin. Sanfilippo joins from Meta, where he was vice president of insights at Reality Labs, and brings more than 20 years of experience in product development, data analytics and technology. According to a Redfin press release, investor purchases in the US fell 6% year over year in Q1 2026, reaching their lowest level since 2020. Investors bought 19% of homes sold (20% the prior year); the median capital gain per property sold by investors rose 5.3% to $196,618. Declines were seen in condos (-8%), single-family homes (-6%) and townhouses (-13%); purchases in the lower-priced segment fell the most. Redfin has launched a ChatGPT app that offers users conversational AI search, market data and answers to specific questions about budget, neighborhood, commute times and price trends. The integration lets users refine search criteria through dialogue instead of repeated parameter inputs and builds on earlier AI tools like Redfin Estimate and Ask Redfin.
